When Anirudh Sang For Dharan
`EVERY MUSIC DIRECTOR ASPIRES OF HAVING AN IDEAL FILM LIKE ROJA TO BRING OUT THEIR BEST'
Music composer Dharan is back in action with his latest album Siddhu Plus 2, which is creating waves. The young composer started his career with a big bang with a Prithiviraj-starrer Paarijatham, but his subsequent films had a lacklustre response.
The song Poove Poove sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja (first time for a composition other than his own) in Siddhu... has catapulted Dharan into the limelight and he is upbeat about getting into the big league with his next musical project Poda Podi which stars Simbu and Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar..
"I did not have a godfather in the industry. Every music director aspires of having an ideal film like Roja and Minnale (for ARR and Harris Jayaraj respectively) to showcase their best.
Though Paarijatham gave me an identity, I was waiting for the right kind of script which would showcase my musical talent," he says while beginning the conversation. Finally Poda Podi happened."This is the kind of script I was waiting for, Poda Podi is a romantic musical subject, a rom-com directed by Vignesh Shivan. The entire film is shot in London. Not just the songs, the entire story travels along with the music. And perhaps it is for the first time we are attempting something like this. Unlike the usual practice of composing music after the scenes are shot, here I have provided music in advance after Vignesh discussed the scenes with me. It was some thing experimental and chal lenging at the same time," he reveals.
Talking about how he bagged the project he says, "The direc tor narrated a one-liner of the script. I did a storyboard tak ing several references from Internet and played it to Simbu. He was very impressed with my composition and gave a go-ahead immediately."
There are six tracks in this album. "There is no typical intro `kutthu' number for the hero. But there is a subtle intro song penned by Simbu and the director, which begins with the lyrics Love Pannalaama Venaama that is also sung by the actor. Simbu has also sung yet another important situa tional song written by ace lyricist Vaali. After he sang we all felt that his enthralling voice has elevated the entire scene," he muses. Yuvan has also been roped in for a peppy romantic number in Poda Podi. "It is a casual yet lively love song. I am fond of Yuvan's voice and insisted that he be brought on board for this song. The title track has been sung by Andrea and Benny Dayal," he reveals.
Dharan is soon off to London for scoring the background music of the film. "We recorded two songs at a London Studio and one song was done at Yashraj Studio in Mumbai. I am planning to use the London Symphony Orchestra for the BGM which will also be recorded there."
